For Freshmen

September 2, 2009

Hi all,

It was awesome meeting all of you at Matric Fair ’09. And it was great to see those who went to the party too. :)

Being a decentralized and democratic group, we would very much welcome any suggestions on how you might wish to improve the cub, i.e. perhaps by suggesting activities you might like to participate in, philosophical areas of interest you might wish to delve further into…

Our  club secretary, Asuka, has kindly designed a survey just for you guys to fill in. Here’s the link:

(for those who haven’t received the link in the email sent earlier to everyone)

Cheers, see ya guys soon.

Hello everyone,

We’re going to have a very interesting talk by Neil Sinhababu this Friday, 20th Feb. Time and venue will be as follows:

6PM at the Philosophy Dept Resource Room.

Hmm. I guess I might as well say a little more about what he’s going to be speaking about- in his words, “I’m going to present a paper called “Possible Girls”.  It’s about how David Lewis’ modal realism allows lonely philosophers in this world to have boyfriends and girlfriends in other possible worlds.”

Hoho. Sounds fun huh?

Ok,  see ya all then!

Film Screening

February 12, 2009

There will be a film screening for the next meeting (13th Feb).

ikiru

Details are as follows-

Title: as stated on movie poster

Time: 6PM

Venue: Central Library, The Room At The End Of The Corridor (I mean, you just walk past the photocopying room and straight down the corridor. It’s pretty obvious)

Okay, the film will be a stimulus for the discussion topic at the next meeting- I know we need to get started on those soon- and no, that doesn’t mean that next meeting will be next week. (Please stop assuming, someone.)

Chris emailed me about Neil’s talk next week- right, he didn’t say anything about the topic- just that he’ll “leave it up to Neil whether he wants to disclose anything about the material”. Right. It’s gonna be fun. ;)

Oh right, so Charles, are you still presenting your paper next week? (Give me an IM. Or something.)

Back to the film- there’s this site about it you guys can go check out: http://opuszine.com/movie_reviews/review/ikiru.

The film’s great (really).

P.S. The auntie told me the room is on a first-come-first-served basis… so someone probably needs to be there before 6…

P.P.S. Anyone attending the Banter this week? (Okay, don’t answer)

See ya all.

Metaphysics Seminar

February 1, 2009

An introductory seminar on metaphysics given by Clement Huang, graduate student of the Philosophy Department.

(Okay, I’m going to do my, uh, writing/design stuff here now ;))

Learn more about reality, existence, the universe, and- I can’t remember Doug Adams’ tagline. Drats.

B e i n g  is the very essence of who we are. The quintessential and fundamental part of ourselves. The reality of the innate truth.

Take a step back from this busy (mundane), hectic (senseless) world and drop by the Philosophy Dept’s Resource Room [AS3, 5th level] this Friday, 6th Feb, at 6pm.

We’ll see you there.

A(nother) Meeting

January 21, 2009

This one shall be on this coming Friday, 23rd Jan, same time, same place.

See ya. ;)
